The MVLS team is a dedicated group of advocates who are committed to justice for all.  Every position plays a critical role in fulfilling our mission to remove barriers to justice through free civil legal help, community engagement, and advocacy for equitable laws.

Internships

Get practical and valuable experience while helping to ensure a fair justice system. MVLS participates in most schools’ fellowship and academic credit programs.

Law Students

MVLS provides practical experience to law students who will be the next generation of pro bono volunteers and public interest lawyers. We offer a wide variety of experiences, including client intake and communications, legal research and writing, and advocacy. MVLS internships are unpaid, but we participate in both the University of Maryland and University of Baltimore Law Schools’ public interest summer programs, where students can receive summer stipends of over $4,000 for 400 hours of work. We also participate in externship programs where you can obtain credit through your law school.

Non-Law Students

MVLS provides practical experience to non-law students interested in nonprofit communications, community outreach, and public service. We offer a standing Outreach and Communications Internship where students gain hands-on experience with community partner engagement, social media and communications, event outreach, research, data tracking, and content development. MVLS generally accepts up to two Outreach and Communications interns each fall, spring, and summer. Other non-law student placements may occasionally be available through specific school, fellowship, service-year, or community-based programs when there is an identified organizational need and staff capacity. MVLS does not currently offer a general office internship program.
