The Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service Host Committee, Board of Directors, and staff would like to extend a sincere thank you to our sponsors, guests, and the legal community for showing up in full force to celebrate 45 years of free civil legal help at A Taste for Pro Bono on Wednesday, April 23, at The Trust at M&T Bank Stadium. Thanks to your incredible support, we raised $201,599 in critical funding to help advance MVLS’ mission of providing free legal help to low-income Marylanders.
As one guest put it, “A Taste for Pro Bono is the best event of the year.”
Your financial support makes it possible for MVLS to provide essential civil legal services to individuals and families in need across the state. These funds, along with the commitment of new and current volunteers, will help provide a fair chance at justice for all.
As Host Committee Chair and Managing Partner at Saul Ewing LLP, Jason M. St. John inspirationally shared:
“You do not want to leave this event and wonder if you could have done more.”
Right now, there are 129 cases on the Pro Bono Portal. That means 129 individuals and families are looking for hope. To the 28 individuals who signed up to take a case during this year’s A Taste for Pro Bono, and the 18 volunteers who signed up to join the panel, our entire organization thanks you.
If you are unsure about taking a case and making the impact underserved Marylanders so deeply need, we invite you to explore our volunteer resources, learn about the mentorship available, or connect directly with our Volunteer Coordinator, Etta Moen.
This year’s event welcomed 270 guests and more than 60 sponsors from law firms, financial institutions, healthcare organizations, and the greater Maryland community. Attendees enjoyed a memorable evening hosted with support from Relentless Events and M&T Bank Stadium, featuring local taste favorites like mini crab cakes, the specialty cocktail of the night—The Purple Reign—a photo booth, and exclusive stadium tours throughout the evening, including stops in the locker room.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in and supported A Taste for Pro Bono. If you are not yet a volunteer, we encourage you to join our Pro Bono Panel and take a case to help us expand access to justice across Maryland. If volunteering is not the right fit at this time, you can still make a meaningful impact by making a donation to support free civil legal help for Marylanders in need.
