Supportive Services for Veteran Families Community Outreach Coordinator as our Community Partner of the Month! How long have you been in existence, and what is your organization’s mission?
Project PLASE has been serving the Baltimore community for 50 years. We address homelessness by providing temporary and permanent housing, along with supportive services for homeless adults and families. We focus on the most vulnerable and underserved populations, including those with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, addiction, developmental disabilities, and ex-offenders. Our approach treats, restores, and rehabilitates the whole person, empowering each individual to function at the highest level possible.
What/who/how do you serve your community?
I work specifically with the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program, which serves Veterans in Baltimore City and County. Each year, we assist 450 Veteran families with housing, employment services, case management, peer advocacy, healthcare navigation, and other support services.
Our focus is on the most vulnerable and underserved, including Veterans and individuals with mental illness, HIV/AIDS, addiction, developmental disabilities, and those with a criminal record. We help participants secure housing, connect to resources, and access wrap-around services to support long-term stability.
Why do you think it’s important to work with a legal services program, like MVLS?
Our program participants often need the support of legal services. Partnering with a program like MVLS ensures that participants can address critical legal issues, access resources, and receive guidance that complements the housing and social services we provide.
