Why Donate

We believe in justice for all

Your generosity can be the difference between someone having a legal advocate by their side or facing a courtroom alone. With your help, MVLS provides free and full civil legal representation for our clients. Your gift helps us conduct thorough intake, recruit and train volunteers, engage community partners, advocate for more equitable laws, and ultimately help our clients move forward with their lives.

Keep reading to learn about ways to give or to see our annual report, platinum seal of transparency, and standards for excellence certification.

Give Now

Tell us what issues matter to you, and we’ll tell you how your support of civil legal aid can make an impact.

Civil legal aid like the kind we provide has a proven impact on people’s housing, financial and family stability in both the short and the long term.

  • Family law can keep families together and help protect those among us who are most vulnerable, including children.
  • Criminal record relief removes barriers to employment so that Marylanders can pursue stable and sustainable jobs.
  • Consumer and income tax work helps people resolve ballooning debt, fight back against bad actors, and protect their limited assets to afford necessities.
  • Housing and estate planning efforts are keeping people housed, encouraging wealth-building in historically disinvested Black neighborhoods, and addressing social determinants of health.

  • 71%
low income Americans facing civil legal problems
  • 3x
more likely to succeed with representation vs. without
  • $6
return on investment for every $1 invested in civil legal aid in Maryland

“To me, receiving free legal help meant that there is always hope.”
