Monday-Friday from 8:30 am-8:00 pm, the Maryland Courts Self-Help Center provides free limited legal services for people with a civil legal problem who are not represented by an attorney via live chat. Lawyers will answer questions on issues ranging from landlord/tenant, family law (divorce, custody, child support, guardianship), small and large claims, criminal record expungement, consumer finance (debt collection, car repossession), domestic violence and foreclosure.
Foreclosure Mediation Brief Advice Project
The Foreclosure Mediation Brief Advice Project is a program that provides FREE brief legal consultations for homeowners facing foreclosure who do not have legal representation. Foreclosure Mediation Brief Advice Attorneys will:
- Answer questions about foreclosure mediation
- Give legal advice regarding your foreclosure
- Help you understand court papers and documents you received regarding your foreclosure
Foreclosure Mediation Brief Advice Attorneys will NOT attend mediation with you, but there are other options for obtaining legal representation for your mediation.*

Maryland Courts Self Help Center (Limited Advice)
Lawyers available Monday – Friday from 8:30 am – 8 pm
Provides brief advice on Landlord-Tenant, Family Law (divorce, custody, child support, and guardianship), Small and Large Claims, Expungement and Shielding of Records, Consumer Matters (car repossessions, debt collection, and credit card cases), Return of Property (replevin and detinue), Domestic Violence/Peace Orders and Foreclosure.
The Family Law Hotline is available at 800-845-8550. Lawyers available Monday – Friday from 9:30 am–4:30 pm
Employment Law Hotline at 877-422-9500. Lawyers are available Tuesdays 9:30am – 1pm and the first Thursday of the month 5 pm–7:30 pm.
Veteran’s Hotline Project at 443-863-4040. Lawyers are available Tuesdays from 3 pm-7 pm and Thursdays from 9:30 am-1:30 pm.
Senior Legal Helpline at 866- 635-2948. Lawyers available Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 9:30 am – 4 pm; Wednesday from 9:30 am – 1 pm; Thursday from 9:30 am – 4 pm and 6 -8 pm.
