Giving Tuesday Expungement Clinic with Venable and Helping Up Mission

Giving Tuesday Expungement Clinic with Venable and Helping Up Mission

By Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service
Wednesday, November 29th, 2017

MVLS staff and Venable volunteers expunging HUM clients’ records.

On November 28, in honor of #GivingTuesday, MVLS partnered with Helping Up Mission (HUM) and Venable, LLP to host an expungement clinic for HUM clients. Volunteers from Venable and MVLS staff attorneys helped 33 HUM clients expunge 117 convictions from their criminal records.

MVLS staff attorney Matthew Stubenberg speaking with a HUM client.

WMAR-TV Baltimore visited the clinic and spoke with a HUM client and MVLS staff about the process of expungement and how Helping Up Mission, who MVLS also collaborates with as a workforce development site, is changing the lives of people who have criminal records and want to have a fresh start in life. MVLS is incredibly thankful for organizations like HUM and law firms like Venable who are passionate about this cause and enthusiastic about working together to provide civil legal services to Maryland residents in need. When we collaborate, this work becomes easier and we’re a step closer to providing access to justice for all.
