The Human Trafficking Prevention Project (HTPP) was featured on WYPR’s On the Record HTPP Coordinator at MVLS Laurie Culkin and HTPP Director and University of Baltimore School of Law Professor Jessica Emerson spoke with Sheilah Kast about what exactly human trafficking is, how to best support survivors of human trafficking with legal tools, and how the project works to prevent human trafficking for clients at high-risk. They discussed complex trauma and the damaging effects it has on people who have experienced human trafficking, long after their involvement. Shamere McKenzie, a survivor and liberator of human trafficking, spoke about her experiences and the weight of the barriers she faces due to the trafficking-related crimes left on her record.
If you missed the live session, you can still listen to the recorded interview on WYPR’s website.
