Introducing Third Thursday Webinars

Introducing Third Thursday Webinars

By Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service
Monday, May 22nd, 2017
We’re excited to announce our new free monthly webinar series on various topics to better support our pro bono attorneys.

This program begins in July with each webinar occurring from 12 pm to 1 pm. They can be viewed as a webinars or in person at the MVLS office.

Upcoming topics include:

July 20 – Spotting Fair Credit Reporting and Fair Debt Collection Claims – Don’t Leave Anything on the Table
This presentation aims to help attorneys spot and preserve claims under both the FCRA and the FDCPA. Attendees will get a brief overview of the FCRA and FDCPA, real life examples of when these claims have popped up in other “types” of cases, and how to best develop and preserve these valuable causes of action for your clients. Click here to register.

Aug. 17 – The Trust-Fund Recovery Penalty: Avoidance and Mitigation
Every employer is legally required to remit withheld taxes to the Department of the Treasury and the Maryland Comptroller. What happens . . . when that doesn’t happen? The webinar will be presented by Stephen P. Kauffman, Esquire, a former IRS agent and CPA, with over 30 years experience in the private practice of law. Steve has seen it all, and looks forward to sharing his experience with you. Click here to register.

Sept. 21 – Expungements: Changes Under the Justice Reinvestment Act
The expungement laws will change again dramatically on Oct. 1st, permitting the expungement of several guilty dispositions. However, there are new requirements, waiting periods, and processes for the new law.  Matthew Stubenberg, MVLS staff attorney, will review the changes and what the new law will require when seeking an expungement. Click here to register.

If there are topics you’d like to see us cover, please contact Janice Shih.
