The Daily Record and the Maryland State Bar Association honor attorneys and judges each year through the Leadership in the Law Awards. The awards recognize members of the legal community who demonstrate dedication to the profession and service to their communities.
This year, several members of the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) network are among those receiving this recognition. MVLS is proud to celebrate these attorneys for their leadership and service within the legal profession and the broader community.
David Sommer
David Sommer, partner at Gallagher LLP and President of the MVLS Board of Directors, has long championed pro bono service and mentorship within Maryland’s legal community.
Sommer has volunteered with MVLS for many years and has played an important role in strengthening the organization’s volunteer network. As Board President, he helps guide MVLS’s efforts to engage private attorneys in pro bono service and expand access to civil legal assistance across Maryland.
Richard Adams
Richard Adams of Wilmington Trust is also among this year’s honorees. Adams has been a dedicated volunteer with MVLS, assisting clients with estate planning, estate administration, and foreclosure matters.
Through his pro bono service, Adams helps individuals—particularly older adults and homeowners—navigate complex legal issues and protect their homes and family assets.
Martha White
Martha White, partner at Wasserman White Family Law LLC, is also being recognized as part of this year’s Leadership in the Law honorees.
White has supported MVLS through the Family Law program, which connects volunteer attorneys with clients facing complex family law matters.
MVLS congratulates these leaders and is grateful for their contributions to the legal profession and to the communities they serve across Maryland.
