MVLS was saddened to learn recently of the passing of Sally Gold. Sally was a treasured member of the MVLS family. Sally’s commitment to MVLS began all the way back at the beginning of MVLS’ inception, when she served as a founding board member, helping to create and shape the organization that has thrived for nearly 45 years and helped well over 100,000 individuals with their legal issues. But Sally’s role with MVLS didn’t stop there.
She served on MVLS’ advisory board for nearly a decade, making herself available for advisory board meetings, and meetings with MVLS leadership to discuss engagement strategies. She served as a volunteer and family law mentor for 36 years, taking 50 family law cases herself and mentoring on an additional 17 cases. She was currently serving as a mentor in the MVLS Family Law Cohort. Sally also generously supported MVLS for many years.

These are some of the sentiments shared by MVLS staff and advisory board members.
“Sally was a dedicated supporter of both pro bono at large and the lawyers who provide critical services to underserved communities. She championed whole organizations, like MVLS, at every opportunity, but she also took time to make personal connections that made people feel respected and valued. Sally was a role model and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all of us in the extended MVLS family.”
“I first met Sally through our MSBA activities. Over the years our paths crossed many times, including MVLS and other pro bono organizations. I will always remember Sally as the woman of 1000 hats! She was uniquely stylish and as clever as her wardrobe.”
“Sally was a giving person. I will miss her.”
“I did not know Sally well, other than in relation to MVLS. However, I did run into her and had a lengthy conversation with her at a fundraiser a year or more ago and had a great conversation. At some point I mentioned that I had recently or would shortly become a grandfather. A few days later came a wonderful note, two children’s books, and a onesie emblazoned with “Talk to My Lawyer.” From what I can tell, that experience encapsulated the kind of fun and giving human being she was.”
“Sally was indeed one of our longest supporters and volunteers—I remember pitching and placing many cases with her back when I started as an intake paralegal, and that she cared very much about her clients.”
The entire MVLS family sends our deepest condolences to her family, we have all lost a committed advocate to fairness, integrity, and meaningful justice.
