Thousands of Marylanders May Be Missing Tax Credits

A new report highlights how thousands of Maryland taxpayers may be missing out on valuable tax credits and deductions during this filing season.

In a recent story by Mallory Sofastaii at WMAR-TV, John Hardt, Director of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service, explained that an estimated 72,000 Maryland tax filers may have been eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit but never claimed it.

The Earned Income Tax Credit can be worth thousands of dollars for eligible workers and families, yet many taxpayers miss the credit simply because they are unaware they qualify or struggle to navigate the filing process.

This year’s filing season also includes new deductions for older adults, tipped workers, and certain overtime pay, making it even more important for taxpayers to understand the credits and deductions available to them.
