We’re proud to share that our Deputy Director, Margaret Henn, was recently featured in The Baltimore Banner, highlighting the ongoing fight to protect vulnerable homeowners from tax sale.
While some argue that tax sale properties are mostly abandoned nuisances, Margaret Henn and fellow advocate Allison Harris from the Pro Bono Resource Center remind us that many real families are at risk, especially older adults, people with disabilities, and Black homeowners.
Despite years of advocacy urging the city to offer fair payment plans, progress has stalled due to unresolved technical issues. However, thanks to continued pressure, Mayor Scott announced a plan to remove owner-occupied properties with assessed values of $250,000 or less from this year’s tax sale list.
