We’re excited to recognize Bob Anbinder as the Volunteer of the Month. Read on to learn more about Bob and his experience as a MVLS volunteer.

Why do you choose to volunteer with MVLS?
Like most attorneys, I want to use my superpowers for good. MVLS makes it easy to do. It is one-stop shopping for all things pro-bono. MVLS has a staff of exceedingly dedicated people who make sure I am aware of the need for my services, who provide cases that might be of interest, ongoing support and encouragement during the case, and even a hearty “thanks so much, we appreciate you” when the case has concluded. And, luckily (!), they provide opportunities to fill my now-available time with other cases to help needy people who would otherwise have to go without it.
Are there any recent cases that you’re proud of? Tell us more about what happened, or about what you learned.
With any case, even in a field you are familiar with, there is something to be learned. In a recent case where a client was being charged $26,000 in old debt, I realized that a few years back the statute of limitations regarding consumer debt had been changed. That completely erased the debt charged to my client, and the case was dismissed! The best way to keep up in a field that is rapidly changing is to take MVLS cases in that field.
What would you say to others who are considering volunteering with or supporting MVLS?
You should do it! You get experience in fields that you might never get a chance to practice in, free mentoring, ongoing case support, and a chance to be part of the solution.
