Why Curtis Volunteers With MVLS

MVLS hooked me through my first divorce case, which I took in exchange for a family law training.

Over the ensuing years, the MVLS Judicare community and the clients we serve have continued to draw me in.

A Recent Case Curtis Is Proud Of

This past winter, I took on a custody and child support case through MVLS shortly before a pendente lite hearing, also known as a “PL” hearing. This type of hearing is a mini-trial that leads to a temporary order.

My client’s sole source of income was a modest amount of Social Security disability benefits. The other parent, as it turned out, was also represented by an MVLS volunteer attorney who did an excellent job.

At a settlement conference shortly after the hearing, we resolved the case on reasonable terms for both of our clients and for their child.

Curtis’s Advice to New Volunteers

The volunteering and learning opportunities offered through MVLS have made me a better lawyer.

In the bigger picture, support for MVLS enables legal representation for those who could not otherwise afford it.
