Ronnetta Stanley
Meet Our Volunteer of the Month
We’re proud to recognize Ronnetta Stanley as MVLS’s Volunteer of the Month. Ronnetta’s commitment to supporting families through the special education process reflects the spirit of pro bono service.
Why Ronnetta Volunteers With MVLS
I enjoy supporting families in understanding the IEP process. It is important that they have a clear understanding of their rights, the procedural framework, and how decisions are made to ensure students receive the supports and services they need to access and benefit from their education.
A Recent Case Ronnetta Is Proud Of
I recently supported a family that English is their second language. The student has not been evaluated in about three years, failing all classes, and not making progress. Several IEP meetings were held to update assessments and revise the IEP.
The team was able to increase the student’s services for a favorable outcome that will help the student both now and in the future. The parent felt supported and is gaining knowledge along the way.
Ronnetta’s Advice to New Volunteers
It is important to share knowledge and time with MVLS families who may need additional support navigating the special education process. I value the opportunity to serve families and advocate alongside them to help secure favorable outcomes and ensure students receive the Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to which they are entitled and that might otherwise be denied.
