Why Volunteer with MVLS

Attorneys, CPAs and Enrolled Agents have the unique skills needed to address inequities in our justice system. MVLS volunteers make a direct impact on the lives of our clients by helping them resolve their case and move forward with their life.

Volunteers also benefit professionally by:

  • Learning new areas of the law
  • Gaining valuable experience in your practice area and in court
  • Fulfilling your pro bono reporting goals
  • Recognition through MVLS facebook page, annual reports, award nominations

MVLS has been matching volunteer attorneys and tax professionals with clients in need since 1981. We support our volunteers with:

  • Malpractice insurance
  • Mentors
  • Free training

Community Action Network (CAN)

Do you want to:

  • Fill your resume with practical experience?
  • Stand out at your firm?
  • Obtain the skills that you need to succeed as a new attorney or tax professional?
  • Have a positive impact on your community?

Then MVLS Community Action Network (CAN) is for you.

What is MVLS CAN?

We rely on  volunteers to ensure Marylanders have civil legal representation when it matters the most.  CAN was created to connect new attorneys, CPAs, enrolled agents and law students with a desire to help people through pro bono to engage in meaningful volunteering, networking opportunities, and professional development.

What are the benefits of joining MVLS CAN?

CAN members receive immediate access to professional development, relationship and network building, mentors and support, as well as the path to provide life-changing legal services to low-income Maryland residents.
