Expungement, Shielding & Vacatur

Below you’ll find links to previously recorded trainings and other materials related to criminal record relief. For a list of upcoming trainings, please visit our events calendar. If you have any questions or need additional information, please reach out to Chris Sweeney, Workforce Development Attorney, at 443-451-4094 for expungement or shielding, and Heather Heiman, Human Trafficking Prevention Project Manager, at 443-451-4075.

MVLS’ New Expungement Web Tool: Expungement volunteers may have noticed that MDExpungement, our program for generating expungements forms, has lost functionality. MVLS has been working with a programmer to create a replacement, and we are happy to announce that the new tool is ready. The expungement web tool can be installed on Google Chrome, and works just like the MDExpungement you are familiar with. Find the link to install it here. We also have a training video with an explanation of how to use the tool.

Important note: Legislation that went into effect Summer 2021 prohibits Maryland Case Search from displaying any charges that resulted in nolle prosequi, acquittal, or dismissal. Cases where all charges resulted in one of these dispositions have been removed from the site entirely. Please see the materials below (‘New Expungement Procedure’) for information about filing expungements under these new rules.

Shielding

Shielding is a process where certain records cannot be expunged but can be shielded from public view. While MVLS’ practice primarily focuses on expungement, attorneys may want to familiarize themselves with shielding law as well.
