Proper estate planning is critical to helping families keep their main asset, their home and help communities keep stable long-term residents. By helping a client craft their estate plan or transfer a home after a relative’s death, you are assisting that client and their family in keeping their home and being able to pass it to the next generation.

Funds Available for Your Cases

Litigation Fund

Many MVLS clients struggle with being able to pay for estate and deed recordation fees . Thankfully, there is a resource to help. The Litigation Fund, administered by the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland (PBRC) and funded by the Maryland Legal Services Corporation, reimburses costs incurred by volunteer attorneys and can be used for estate expenses.

More Information

Probate Fee Waiver

As of October 1, 2019, the Registers of Wills are required to waive probate fees for MVLS clients. Volunteer attorneys should submit Register of Wills Form 1220 to the Register of Wills when assisting an MVLS client in opening an estate. Volunteers should consider also submitting a copy of their placement letter from MVLS to prove that the client is an MVLS client.
